This week in Year 5 w.b. 18.3.13

Thankyou for all the wonderful homework about refugees.  This really helped both classes to discuss the subject and gain a greater understanding of issues experienced by some children.  They have studied “The Colour of Home” all week, this is a story about a young boy, Hassan, who is a refugee from Somalia.  We have had some wonderful writing about Hassan.

Our focus next week will be on The Easter Story.  We shall be looking at the story from the view points of a variety of people who appear in it.  There will be an Easter Service Assembly at 10.15am until 10.35am on Wednesday 27th March to which everyone is invited.

We would also like to invite you to a film showing in the Year 5 classrooms on Thursday 28th March at 2.15pm.  Both classes have enjoyed creating some stop gap animations – we hope to use this skill again as we have all learnt so much.  We shall be showing the films and then there will be an opportunity to look at the storyboards that the children wrote and the materials they used.  They will then take on the role of teacher and let you have a go at making your own stop gap animation!  In addition Year 5 have been writing some wonderful magic based stories.  These have been written up and bound by each class as a book.  For a donation, which will go to Comic Relief, you will be able to take your very own copy home.  We look forward to seeing you.
