This week in Y5 (week ending 6th October)
Watch out there’s an alien about! Y5 have been exercising their very vivid imaginations this week and have completed their own science fiction stories. They looked at applying their skills in writing dialogue, starting sentences with a preposition (where or when) and using paragraphing. We’re sure you’ll enjoy reading them at parents’ evening this coming Thursday (12th) or the following Monday (16th).
Decimals have been the focus of our maths lessons with metre sticks, 2p coins and Diennes apparatus helping us to understand the notation for tenths and hundredths and lots of counting forwards and backwards in decimals too. Try it at home; it can sometimes catch you out, especially when crossing the whole number boundaries!
There have been some beautiful pastel creations too, representing the planets in space.
Thank you for supporting your child in our year of reading. Over two thirds of the school enjoyed an extra playtime on Friday as a reward for regular reading at home. It would be fantastic to see all the children getting their bonus playtime by reading (and having their record being signed!) at home at least 8 times over two weeks. It really does make a difference to their work.
We hope to meet you all at the PGL meeting on Wednesday 18th October where you can see and hear about the great experience your children can have on their residential trip at the start of Y6.
Have a lovely weekend. You may be able to get a glimpse of the draconic meteor shower tonight – no binoculars needed!
