Despite our continued messages regarding the importance of driving and parking safely and respectfully around the schools, we are still frequently receiving reports of thoughtless parking and abuse towards local residents and fellow parents.
Residents tell us that their drives are being blocked, used for turning and even parked in. This is not acceptable. Numerous cars continue to park on pathways and grass verges, making it dangerous for children to walk to school safely and for anyone with pushchairs, or those in a wheelchair or with a visual impairment. There have been several near misses of children nearly getting knocked over. The sheer volume of cars would also make it impossible for emergency vehicles to get through to local residents or the school.
We are working with the council to look at ways of improving the situation and also seeking advice from the local police.
The Highway Code specifies do not stop or park: near a school entrance; anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services; opposite or within 10 metres of a junction, except in an authorised parking space; in front of an entrance to a property; or on a bend.
It is only YOU who can make the change and park safely and use the suggested Park and Stride. We urge you to look at ways of getting your child safely to school before we have to report on something more serious happening to one of the children. Please respect local residents, who are part of our community too!
What can you do?
Thank you for your continued support.
