Next week is Walk to School Week! As well as being a healthy way to start the day, walking provides the opportunity to learn important road safety skills, have a chat about your day and reduces congestion around school.
Some tips…
Walk with your child and discuss potential hazards such as driveways, junctions, parked cars and bends.
Work out together the safest route – even if this involves a slightly longer journey.
Let your child suggest places to cross and discuss their choice.
See if they know and can use the Green Cross Code.
If you don’t have time to walk the whole way, you can park the car on the way to school and walk the rest of the way – see our Park and Stride map for places you can leave the car.
Children who walk all, or part, of the way to school each day will receive a certificate at the end of the week.
