Possible disruption on Tuesday July 5th

On Friday, it was announced that the NUT teaching union has planned industrial action for Tuesday 5th July.

As of yet, we are not sure of the impact that this will have on our school. Please do not assume that this is a day off.

I am writing to ask you to make plans should the school, or part of the school, be closed. We certainly plan to remain open if possible; however, it is best that you are well prepared with child care.

There are certain legalities in these situations which can make it difficult for a school to remain open to pupils. For example, schools are not allowed to employ staff to cover the classes of those on strike. Further, it is not possible to ‘split’ those classes so that the pupils are taught in other classes. You will appreciate that I must also take into consideration the health and safety of all pupils, should we have limited staff.

I will keep you informed as much as I am able to. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions. This letter will go out in paper form on Monday.
