  • Gardening begins in our community garden

    Mon 27 May 2013

It was great to see some of our pupils attending to the needs of our community garden last week. The weather gave them a chance to pull some weeds out and to have a general tidy up. If anyone has spare time and enjoys working outside, please feel free to join in.

  • Courtyard Grand Opening

    Sun 26 May 2013
On Friday, over 40 parents, carers and friends joined the Year 4 pupils for the Grand Opening of the revamped courtyard area. During the opening, Mr Applegate gave a speech written by the Year 4 pupils. They also cut a ribbon, and Mr Hanson and Mrs Barter unveiled the curtains to allow everyone to see the magnificent site! The courtyard is now clean, attractive, and fresh, and will be used every day by the children for their enjoyment. Thank you to everyone who has taken part in this project; a fantastic example of our community working together, and exciting learning based in a real life context.
  • Keeping Safe Online

    Sun 26 May 2013

This week, pupils came home with a sticker and leaflet about keeping ‘SMART’ when on-line. The 5 rules are below. Please do have an ongoing chat with your child about this; children spend an ever-increasing amount of time on-line, and together we need to do all we can to keep them safe, and be aware of the dangers.

  • What App would you recommend?

    Thu 23 May 2013

    Dear Parents/Carers and children

As a school we are always looking for ways to improve and update our learning resources and technology.  With this is mind we have decided to buy some tablets for the children to use in lessons and need your help.  We haven’t fully decided which type of tablet to buy so would be very grateful if you could help us with our decision.

If you own a tablet, please could you suggest any apps that you use or think would benefit the children educationally. Some apps might be subject specific (English, Maths, Science etc), whilst others might be good tools for learning (making videos, using GPS/maps, note-taking etc). You may also know of some useful apps from your ‘SmartPhone’- often these apps work on a tablet, too.

Please could you send in your ideas by Friday 7th June 2013.

    Yours faithfully

    Mrs Alsey

  • Jackie raises funds for St Michael’s Hospice – the hard way!

    Wed 22 May 2013
One of our amazing cooks, Jackie Wicks, has raised even more money for St Michael’s Hospice. Fab! She asked people to donate to the charity, and in return, trekked the Grand Canyon in the USA. Jackie will be talking to our pupils about her experience, but you can get a sneak preview through the photos below. Even better, you can donate money through her JustGiving.com webpage here Thank you
  • Friendship

    Wed 22 May 2013

On Wednesday, it was great to have Rev. Pat share with us in assembly about friendship. Friends aren't always perfect, but we must all learn to forgive and forget, and make the most of them. Thank you Rev Pat!

  • This week at KFJS

    Sun 19 May 2013

We’ll be looking at the topic of friendship, and how we can enjoy being part of a world that is made up of a diverse group of people, with a range of needs. We’ll think about the fairness of situations around the world (such as 50% of the world being malnourished, despite there being plenty of food to go round).

Friday is the grand opening of our courtyard, thanks to our Year 4 pupils and parents. The Year 6 leavers photo is on Friday, too. Don’t forget about half term next week.
